Instructor adores yearbook class

Gladis Jacinto-Raymundo and Jacob Anderson check out what’s next for yearbook class. (October Kochen)

Yearbook is a class here at South High School, and English teacher Jacob Andersen has taught the class for three years. “Yearbook is the most stressful, fun, and rewarding class I’ve ever taught,” he said.

As I was sitting down with Andersen, he told me what the most important quality is in choosing his yearbook staff. “For me I look at people who are reliable, responsible, and self-motivated. On my yearbook staff I need people that are going to get work done and who I can count on.” He talks about how he loves the group of kids he picked that work on the yearbook.

When asked, Andersen said he doesn’t have a favorite yearbook. “I don’t have a favorite; I think that all three yearbooks have gotten better one after another. They all have their good qualities and bad qualities, but I think they just show how we have grown as a yearbook class.”

And while teaching yearbook can be stressful due to meeting deadlines, “I would never not want to teach yearbook. I’ve made so many memories with these kids, and making the yearbook the very best for everyone else is super enjoyable.”

“I love yearbook,” he added.  “It’s what gets me out of bed every morning”.
