With graduation approaching, seniors are reflecting on the past and setting goals for the future. Whether it’s improving grades, staying motivated or preparing for life after high school, four South seniors shared their resolutions for the year ahead.
As the school year comes to an end, seniors are focused on what they want to accomplish before walking the stage. Some shared goals both in and out of school. Damien Nelson Munguia and Alonso Mora Lopez shared goals they want to accomplish outside of school. Munguia shared that he wants to complete his second year at his job, and Lopez said he wants to finish modifying his car. Emilio Avendano Vega and Destiny Rodriguez Cabeza shared academic goals. Vega said he is trying to get admitted to UNMC as a CNA, while Cabeza is deciding what career path she wants to pursue.
Students also shared something they are doing now that their freshman-year selves would be proud of, whether that’s staying focused on school, working part-time jobs or taking on more responsibility. Vega shared that he is proud of his work ethic and earning his CNA. Cabeza and Munguia said keeping up their grades and maintaining a high GPA is what they are proud of. Lopez shared that starting a business in high-ticket sales is what his freshman self would be proud of.
By the end of 2026, students see themselves in very different places. Some hope to be preparing for college, while others see themselves gaining independence through work or new opportunities. Munguia, Lopez and Cabeza shared that they want to gain independence by being financially stable, having reliable cars and settling into a new chapter of life. Vega sees himself chasing his dream of becoming a nurse and hopes to be in college studying pre-nursing.
When discussing their plans after high school, all four seniors expressed a shared goal of attending college and building stable, independent lives. Moving out and becoming independent were described as important steps in their transition from high school to adulthood.
From freshman year to now, the Class of 2026 has grown, learned and set goals that show they are prepared for whatever comes after high school.
