After three years, Daniel Caesar released “Never Enough,” one of his most anticipated albums, on April 7, 2023. He first announced the album in early February 2023. Fans were happy to see that, after three years, he had finally released new music.
His first single from the album was “Let Me Go,” a song about trying to leave a relationship that has reached its end while still not wanting to let go. This captures the emotional tug-of-war between love and the need to break free, as he asks his partner to set him free. There are hints of this in the lyrics, “Baby, won’t you let me go?” The song is accompanied by a music video that presents a clear, metaphorical statement of its meaning.
The album includes four features: Omar Apollo, Ty Dolla $ign, Mustafa and serpentwithfeet, along with a bonus track featuring Summer Walker, Rick Ross and BADBADNOTGOOD. Each artist is well utilized, with verses and melodies that suit their styles. However, it sometimes feels as if the songs were made specifically for the featured artists, which is one of the album’s flaws.
Listening to the album is a roller coaster of emotion. For whatever mood you are in, there is a song to match it. The album maintains a slow and steady pace, with shifts in tempo that mirror emotional highs and lows — between passion, heartbreak and self-reflection — allowing listeners to fully connect with the tracks. It keeps listeners engaged with each song, making the album less skippable.
I would recommend this album, especially to those who love R&B. The genre has made a comeback in music. Coming into the 2020s, many established and emerging artists are leaning toward R&B, so if you are looking for something new, this is an album to consider.
