The film “The Princess and the Frog” is an animated children’s movie made by Disney and was released in 2009.
“The Princess and the Frog” follows the story of a young girl named Tiana. Tiana’s dream started with her father. Her dream has always been to open her own restaurant and name it “Tiana’s Palace” in honor of her father.
Growing up, Tiana’s dad was a soldier and would work long, hard shifts. He would come home late at night and cook with Tiana, feeding their neighborhood. His dream was to also open a restaurant with his daughter, but he ended up dying in war not long after.
After her dad died, Tiana worked even harder to open her restaurant. She worked two jobs back to back and saved every penny. She sacrificed her personal life and mental health to make her dream come true.
One day, Tiana is at work when her best friend Charlotte (Lottie) comes into her job and shares very exciting news with her: Prince Naveen of Maldonia was coming to New Orleans.
Prince Naveen’s intention was to go to New Orleans and marry Lottie because she was rich. Prince Naveen’s parents cut him off for being lazy, and he refused to get a job.
Upon Prince Naveen’s arrival, he meets the Shadow Man, who is known for dark magic. The Shadow Man promises to make Prince Naveen rich, and Naveen is sucked right in.
Naveen quickly learns that the Shadow Man betrayed him and turned him into a frog. The Shadow Man decided to help Prince Naveen’s valet, Lawrence, take revenge on Naveen for taking advantage of him.
Lawrence is transformed into Prince Naveen so that he can marry Lottie and get rich, while the real Prince Naveen is stuck as a frog.
Lottie then decided to host a costume party to meet Prince Naveen and celebrate the Mardi Gras season. While there, Tiana changed into a blue dress that made her look like a princess.
The real Prince Naveen sees Tiana, thinking she’s a real princess, and tells her she needs to kiss him to break the curse. Tiana freaks out because she discovers that frogs can talk, but she eventually gives in and kisses him.
Instead of the kiss breaking the curse, Tiana is also transformed into a frog because she is not a real princess. Prince Naveen and Tiana set off to the bayou to find Mama Odie.
Mama Odie is the legendary New Orleans voodoo queen. Prince Naveen and Tiana learn about her through their new alligator friend, Louis.
Naveen and Tiana believe that Mama Odie can help them break the curse. What they did not know was that the Shadow Man and his shadows are chasing the two frogs, trying to capture them.
In my opinion, this is the best Disney movie. Tiana is an independent woman and shows dedication and hard work. She’s not waiting for her dreams to happen; she’s making them happen.
I also love this movie because it takes place in New Orleans and shows the culture, food and Mardi Gras atmosphere very well. It introduces jazz music, voodoo and the vibrant environment.
One of my favorite parts about this movie is the songs and style. The movie was set in the 1920s to highlight jazz and voodoo folklore. The jazz songs in this movie match each and every character and make the movie enjoyable to watch.
The visuals of this movie are also done extremely well and highlight the fairytale and royalty.
This movie also shows how love should be — understanding, growing together, loyal and appreciating each other’s dreams.
I believe this movie is perfect for any age or gender. It shares powerful themes and shows that hard work pays off.
