South’s Senior Class Cabinet aims to bring the Class of 2026 together to create memories that will last a lifetime.
According to class cabinet member Destiny Rodriguez Cabeza, seniors in the cabinet take on leadership roles to help make the year memorable because every student deserves a final year they will always remember.
Being part of the senior class cabinet allows students to plan activities for their own senior year while gathering ideas from the entire Class of 2026. Rodriguez Cabeza said listening to classmates and encouraging their input makes planning events more interactive because seniors have a say in what happens. This creates a bridge between cabinet members and the Class of 2026 making it easier to communicate expectations and preferences. She believes maintaining open communication is important because it builds strong connections.
“Being a senior in class cabinet takes being a good sport and being inclusive,” Rodriguez Cabeza said. Positive qualities are often sought in members. Considering everyone’s ideas, helping plan events and participating actively are important standards. Understanding different perspectives is essential in what she described as a group-oriented environment that brings everyone together to finalize plans.
“Creativity is key. Running something like class cabinet takes being open-minded and optimistic about all possibilities,” Rodriguez Cabeza said. Brainstorming ideas among members makes the process of creating something new easier. Combining ideas allows the cabinet to turn simple concepts into memorable experiences for seniors. She said the environment within the cabinet can be meaningful for students and gives them leadership opportunities to use their voices and represent their class.
Although being a member may seem laid-back, Rodriguez Cabeza said the role comes with challenges.
“One of the biggest challenges of being a member of class cabinet is deciding when and where to hold activities,” she said. Determining whether students will participate can also be difficult. Creating activities that seniors will want to attend is “very essential,” she said.
“Knowing what’s next in my senior year and knowing I have a say in it makes it all worth it in the end,” Rodriguez Cabeza said.
