Valentines’ Day is a special day of the year to show appreciation and love to one’s significant other, friends and family. Because people sometimes find themselves indecisive about what to get for their loved ones, here are a couple of hot takes on what Omaha South High students think are the best gifts to give and receive.
Senior Ian Wilton, who has been with his girlfriend for nearly a year and a half, said it’s best to find out some details before buying a gift.
“You have to get to know the person and ask them simple questions like what their favorite color is, what flower they believe best represents them, or what they think is one of best chocolates,” he said.
A gift Wilton thinks is over-rated, however, is a giant-sized teddy bear. “They don’t really represent anything, but regular sized bears are an OK present.” Wilton added he believes a hand-made present plays a more significant role. He said that when someone takes their time to physically make something, it seems to come more from the heart.
South High junior Jatziry Sandoval-Reyes said she has been with her boyfriend for two years. Sandoval-Reyes said she thinks the best way to make the gesture more special is by “putting in a lot of thought and detail into the gifts and adding things he likes and memories we’ve shared!”
When it comes to purchasing gifts, Sandoval-Reyes said she goes to places like “Walmart or Target for economical” reasons, but if she’s looking for something pricier, the mall is a good place to visit. Getting everything pulled together at least a week ahead of time is also the best.
