Senior student athlete Ryan Kubiak started his soccer career at age 4 when his mom sent him to play at the Omaha Kroc Center. Today, he is in his fourth year of varsity soccer.
Kubiak said he plays club soccer for Sporting Nebraska ECNL 2008 team and added that it’s his 12th year of club soccer. Outside of school, Kubiak said he likes to hang out with friends, build LEGOS and play the piano.
Kubiak said that if South’s soccer team plays to the best of its ability, it will most definitely make state finals again; Kubiak is confident that the team will take the trophy home. “I’m excited,” he added.
Because it is his senior year, Kubiak added that he will give it his all this season as it’s his last chance to win that state title.
Kubiak said his favorite memory of high school soccer is “probably scoring in state last year,” the game that sent South High to the state finals. He said his favorite memory for club soccer is going to nationals in San Diego his 2023 season.
South High fell short last year losing in the state finals. Kubiak said he learned to “come out on the front foot and stop being scared” and adding that conceding those two early goals to Omaha Westside is how they lost.
Kubiak said he is taking his skills to Iowa Western Community College, and for those future students who want to play college soccer, Kubiak said to “keep an open mind.” He added that coaches know what they’re doing, and advised student athletes to be open to change also adding that he wasn’t always an outstanding player.
Kubiak’s high school soccer coach Joseph Maass said Kubiak is very talented. He may not score a lot, but he controls the game. “He is easily a top five player in the state.”
Kubiak said he made the Nebraska All State first team, All Metro first team, and for club he made the Heartland ECNL second team.
