The South cross country team braved the cold and snow of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, last weekend for its final race of the 2025 season, an event South has participated in for the past 15 years. Temperatures dropped to 20 degrees with 20 mph winds, but that didn’t stop the team.
Coach John Tripp said, “Packer grit shined as they dashed past athletes who beat them the rest of the year.” Seniors Sofia Benavidez and Cinthia Alvarado both defeated a state medalist from Lincoln High School. Benavidez also maintained a 6-minute, 50-second mile pace over the 5K distance on a slushy, snow-covered course. Undoubtedly tough, hardworking athletes. Go Packers!
