Jennifer Sudduth has been a teacher at South since 2011. She first came to South because she worked here during college. She said when a position opened, she took it and has been here ever since.
Over the years, Sudduth said she has taught many classes, but currently she teaches AP World History, AP U.S. History and International Studies. She also helps out as the sponsor of the National Honor Society (NHS), which just shows how much she cares about student success, not just in class but also for their future goals.
One thing that stands out about Sudduth is how much she loves teaching. When I asked if she enjoyed her job, she said, “I love teaching! I wouldn’t want to do anything else in the world.” Teaching is not just a job for her; it’s something she truly values.
Outside of school, Sudduth said she has hobbies that keep her busy. She likes to read a lot and recently started working on junk journaling, an art form that involves making a personalized journal from recycled, repurposed and found materials such as junk mail, old book pages, fabric scraps, tickets or packaging materials.
Sudduth also said she has a 13-year-old boxer dog named Sasha who is really important to her. After school, she said she likes to relax by scrolling through TikTok because it helps her decompress after a long day of teaching.
Even though Sudduth doesn’t have children of her own, she puts a lot of energy into her students as if they were her own. Sudduth said she encourages them in class and helps them prepare for college. With her positive attitude, love for history and her support of NHS, she is a teacher who has made a big impact.
