After years of shaping young dancers both on and off the floor, Erica Snyder Masters, a beloved South dance teacher and La Fuerza coach, is taking her final bow. As she prepares to step away from teaching, her reflections reveal a career defined not just by choreography, but connection, growth and heart.
When asked what she will miss most, her answer comes without hesitation: her students. More than routines or performances, it’s the relationships she built that meant the most.
“My students!!” she said simply, yet the weight of the statement speaks volumes about the bonds formed over the years.
Her journey, however, wasn’t without challenges. Looking back, Snyder Masters recalled her early struggles during her first year of teaching.
“I really struggled with student connection; my inflexibility with students made teaching hard,” she admitted.
But that experience became a turning point. Learning to approach students with empathy transformed her perspective and ultimately made teaching “a true joy.”
At the core of her life’s work is a deep love for dance itself.
“Dance is my language, my emotional outlet, my communication for all the things I don’t say. It’s part of my soul, my identity,” she explained.
For her, dance was never just about movement; it was about expression, connection and love.
As she steps away, she hopes her students carry forward more than technical skill.
“I hope they’ve learned that they are capable of doing hard things, that they are wonderful, beautiful human beings. I hope they believe in themselves like I believe in them,” she said.
It’s a lesson rooted in confidence and self-worth, one that extends far beyond the studio.
Her final message to students is filled with gratitude and encouragement.
“Thank you. Thank you for letting me be a part of your journey. Thank you for being a part of my journey. Keep dancing.”
In return, her students have a message of their own, one that echoes the same gratitude she shared with them.
“Thank you for believing in us, even when we didn’t believe in ourselves. Thank you for pushing us to be stronger, not just as dancers, but as people. You taught us more than steps; you taught us confidence, resilience and how to express who we truly are. Your passion made every class feel like home, and your support made every challenge worth it. We will carry your lessons with us wherever we go. This isn’t goodbye; it’s just the next step in the dance you helped us begin.”
