South High teacher Lee Ann Ball said she always knew she wanted to work in a career that served people, so she decided to become a high school teacher.
“I enjoy working with young people and helping them find their strengths,” she said. Ball added that she loves to learn and share her passion with others.
Ball said her high school English teacher, Mrs. Bowles, along with her NJROTC instructors — Commander Edwards and Master Chief Conklin — were positive role models who had a lasting impact on her life. She said she hopes to inspire her own students in a similar way.
This is Ball’s sixth year teaching at Omaha South; she has served in various other positions previous to this. She currently works as a special education teacher at South High.
Ball co-teaches with two algebra teachers and also teaches reading and math intervention classes. She said she enjoys connecting with her students, hearing about their interests, and watching them grow in their activities.
Outside of school, Ball said she enjoys spending time with her family, friends and pets. Her hobbies include reading, writing and cycling. She has ridden in Bike Ride Across Nebraska (BRAN) and has completed Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa (RAGBRAI) 13 times.
Ball said South High is a wonderful place to work and that she hopes to continue teaching there for many more years. She said her students and daily routine help keep her life organized.
Her advice to students: “Get involved. Be part of a club or other extracurricular activity to make the best high school memories.”

Mrs. Ball is an amazing person. We were blessed to work with her when she was doing her student teaching in Papillion. From the first day I met her I knew she was going to be a kind and caring educator.
