South High National College Preparatory Academy (NCPA) staff member Jailene Tavizon advises students to enjoy their childhood and get involved in activities before graduating high school.
“Live to the fullest,” she said. Tavizon feels students try to rush growing up instead of enjoying their childhood.
What led Tavizon into education was the timing of how everything fell into place. After graduating from college, Tavizon had an internship, but when that came to an end, Jenna, the program’s associate director, reached out to her about the position she currently holds as Omaha South program associate.
During her free time, Tavizon said she likes to go to the gym, go out with friends or do anything relaxing.
“On my days off from the gym, I like to hang out with my friends,” she said.
One tip Tavizon would give struggling students is to talk to their teachers, go to tutoring, ask a friend for help or maybe use ChatGPT.
Tavizon’s opinion on ChatGPT is that it’s OK to use it for help with assignments but only if it’s being used correctly. She said she feels students have more resources to help them academically today than in the past.
“I feel like students today have it easier. Students complain about essays, but back then we were challenged more,” she said.
Due to more technology, she feels students do not get the same experiences as students did back then.
One accomplishment Tavizon is particularly proud of this year is getting accepted into a graduate program for her master’s degree.
