South High industrial materials processing teacher Bryan Busteed is deeply passionate about woodworking.
Busteed said his father helped him stay passionate about working with wood.
“Growing up, my dad was a woodshop teacher and a carpenter, so I grew up around this stuff. That’s where I got the idea from,” he said.
“My number one motivation is teaching at South,” Busteed said. “I love my job. That’s one thing that keeps me motivated. I love the facility here; it makes it fun and enjoyable to work, which is another thing that keeps me motivated.”
Busteed said his favorite part of teaching industrial materials processing is “watching students start from square one with standard materials, then create a project they can take home and be proud of.”
Busteed said he also coaches powerlifting at Midland University in Fremont. He explained, “Some of my favorite memories come from the success of my powerlifting club that I’ve coached for 22 years.”
“I like to hang out with family and coach my powerlifting club outside of work,” he added.
Busteed said he is still undecided about how many more years he wants to continue teaching industrial materials processing. “I’m undecided, but I can officially retire in two years. After this year, I can retire in 2028,” he said.
