Words ebbed and flowed and cracked and popped at the South Poetry Slam Friday afternoon.
Poets from the Nebraska Writers Collective (NWC) performed their works along with students from South’s All Writes Reserved poetry club, the student branch of NWC.
Dormant seeds and healthy soil; heretics and gothic hair; diamonds on Queen Victoria’s crown, delighted darkness, the beauty and the good, mental health and angelic shadows – all were ideas woven with words and expressed dramatically through movement and voice to the delight of audiences members.
Student poets who performed included Jay Peters, Jetzin Valadez Ruiz, Ambrose Vela and Delan Winebrenner. Guest poets were Samantha Mendoza, Toni Monette, Light Pole, Angélica Perez, and Ben Wenzl. Pat McEvoy acted as MC.
