Streetlamps glow a light amber hue illuminating the sidewalks shadowed by the starry winter night. Cars speed past on one-way streets as groups of people bustle around the numerous businesses. In addition to streetlights, snowflake-shaped lights hang on the neat brick walls of the buildings in The Old Market, one of the heartbeats of the city.
I traverse this labyrinth of local businesses regularly, and tonight I do so alone. I make my way through winding sidewalks and alleys as I stop at all my usual places, such as Hollywood Candy, Jackson Street Bookstore, the Imaginarium, Old Market Emporium, and the Lotus. Christmas has come and gone, but the snow-themed decorations still hang on various buildings, and nowhere have I experienced a more scenic winter than in downtown Omaha.
