Everyone has different learning styles, one of which is the preference between taking notes by hand or typing them on an iPad.
Junior Elizabeth Hernandez said that when she writes notes on paper, the information stays in her head better. Also, because she prefers to write on paper, she said she can write faster and keep up with her notes.
Junior Denise Lagunas also said that she likes to take her notes by hand on paper because it helps her remember the material better. She also said she believes it makes her more productive and helps her to work more quickly.
“It feels more special when you take your time and write it down, because what if there isn’t an iPad and you had to use paper? Your handwriting would be bad, and you wouldn’t be able to read it,” she said.
Senior Savannah Iraheta said she also prefers paper to an iPad because she grew up with paper, and it helps her when she needs to copy the last couple of notes or to study for her tests.
“It just feels better when you write it down, and that’s the fun in writing; you can do whatever you want,” she added.
Junior Kristopher Plascencia–Loza, however, said that he prefers the iPad for taking notes because he finds it more reliable. He added that when he writes on paper, his hand can get all cramped up which doesn’t allow him to write anymore.
Most students interviewed appeared to favor taking notes the old-fashioned way – by hand. They believe that writing notes by hand is quicker and makes it easier for them to understand since it’s their own handwriting.
