It’s a chilly winter morning, and students and teachers around the country are waiting for the days when there is no school so they can stay home, sleep in, not worry about what to wear or the assignments teachers give out. Here at South High both teachers and students cannot wait for spring break because they have many activities planned.
Lauren Rindfleisch, South High psychology teacher, said her plans usually involve going out of town, but this year she is going to spend time with her wife and go to the gym, do some spring cleaning and catch up on grading. “I look forward to taking walks with my dogs Kali and Kooper,’’ she said, adding that she hopes it will be warmer so she doesn’t have to wear a jacket. Two years ago, Rindfleisch said she went to Mexico with her wife where they drank by the pool, ate tacos and got tans.
Social studies teacher Ellen Augustine said her plans are to celebrate St Patrick’s day with some of her teacher friends. “I booked some appointments since I won’t be at school, and I’ll be able to go to them now,” she added.
Augustine said she looks forward to going to her son’s soccer games and spending time with her grandchildren; she said she also hopes for nice weather so she can do spring cleaning outside. If she could teleport anywhere in the word, however, Augustine said she would go to Poland.
Sophomore Nallely Nalasco Hernandez said she can’t wait for spring break. “I want to enjoy the nice weather and not wear a coat,” she said. Hernandez also said she plans on getting her nails done and hanging out with her friends but doesn’t want to help her mom do spring cleaning. “I hope to go to Colorado like last year to visit my grandparents,” she said. Hernandez added that she does not like that spring break is later than it was last year but is glad it’s one step closer to the end of the school year.
Sophomore Dennis Justo Nava said his plans for spring break are to get his driver’s license and continue working. Nava said when he’s not working, he wants to be at home relaxing and not worrying about assignments. Nava said he would like to be outside with his friends because he’s tired of the cold. “I look forward to driving around on a nice day with the windows down and listening to music.” Lastly, Nava said he hopes to spend time with his family and possibly go out of state.
No matter if it’s a teacher or student, everyone seems to be looking forward to the warm days of spring break.
