Malcom James McCormick, more commonly known as Mac Miller, was born January 19, 1992, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. At an early age, Miller was incredibly involved with music and went by the name “Easy Mac.” Miller went on to have a successful career releasing seven studio albums and many singles. Miller died from an overdose in 2018 in Los Angeles, California.
“K.I.D.S.” was released by Miller and Rostrum Records in 2010 as Miller’s fourth mixtape. Miller also went on tour in early 2011. The tour, named “Incredibly Dope Tour,” sold out at every venue.
On the first track, “Kickin’ Incredible Dope Stuff,” the lyrics set the tone for the album with an upbeat vibe and catchy intro that hooks the listener into the album. This track also talks about celebrating and enjoying your youth. Although this song is good on paper, I do not think that it is good just because of the intro to the song.
The second track, “Outside,” gets into Miller’s perspective during the day. It is also a calm song that I could definitely add to my sleeping playlist but would not listen to daily.
The third track, “Get Em Up” is a high energy track that shows Miller’s playful side. His clever lyrics and confidence make the song stand out. I would say this is my third favorite song because it reminds me of music from the 2010s.
In the fourth track, “Nikes on My Feet,” I would say that this song could help boost your self-confidence and ability to be independent. This song has a chill vibe, and it can help you relax.
The fifth track, “Senior Skip Day,” gives off an uplifting vibe that talks about being a rebellious student by skipping class. I like this song because it reminds me of “The Spins” which is my favorite song.
The sixth track, “The Spins,” is my favorite song on the whole album because it is uplifting and automatically lifts my mood when I hear it. I also play this song whenever I have a game to get myself ready.
The seventh track, “Don’t Mind If I Do,” goes deep into enjoying life and living in the moment. I would say that this song is not my favorite because the beat reminds me of old cringe music videos.
The eighth track, “Paper Route,” is good for a late-night song to listen to when you just want to lie down and relax. This song has a deep meaning, and it can be triggering to some listeners.
The ninth track, “Good Evening,” has an uplifting beat to the song, and it would be a good song to add to a party playlist. This song also includes Miller talking about his rise to fame. I like this song and would add it to a hangout playlist because of the background beats and the clear lyrics you can understand.
The 10th track, “Ride Around” is a laid-back jazz beat song that I would not add to any playlist. It feels as if this song has a very eerie beat to it which is not my favorite especially when it is on my sleeping playlist.
The 11th track, “Knock Knock,” is my second favorite song because the lyrics are fun, and I feel as if I can tell what the lyrics are saying unlike some other songs in this playlist. I would also add this to my playlist that I listen to before games.
The 12th track “Mad Flava, Heavy Flow,” is a short song that is 27 seconds long. I would say that this is my least favorite song on this album because it is just too short, and it is hard to enjoy a song that is this short.
The 13th track, “Kool Aid & Frozen Pizza,” has a very similar vibe to the others. This song has a jazz beat that can be enjoyed relaxing, and the lyrics talk about Miller and his life which can be interesting if you investigate the lyrics.
The 14th track, “Poppy,” also gives off a relaxing vibe that I could add to my sleeping playlist. I would say that I do not like this song just because you can’t pay attention to the lyrics unless you really focus on what he is saying. This song also talks about losing someone to death and having that nostalgic feeling of when they were there.
The 15th track, “Face in the Crowd,” is a good upbeat song that is also relaxing. I like this song because it reminds me of old school music. I could also add this to my sleeping playlist.
Overall K.I.D.S. is a good album but not a great album. This album features a look into the singer growing up, and it offers a sense of nostalgia. I would give this album a three out of five stars because I do not think that the entire album is full of great songs, but there are certain songs that are my favorites.
