Omaha South High has an award-winning journalist in its midst.
Senior Briana Galindo took home the second-place award in the Division A News Story category at the UNO High School Media Contest Friday. Galindo won for her Tooter article about South’s new hall pass system, KIDaccount, and how it affected students and teachers.
Galindo has been a part of South’s journalism program for the last three years.
More than 654 entries from nearly a dozen Nebraska school districts were received for the contest which was part of the UNO High School Media Day held at UNO’s Milo Bail Student Center.
South journalism students were able to attend the day’s events and got a taste of what the professional world of journalism is all about.
The conference featured sessions from professionals in the field as well as lunch and a keynote address from Holly Rowe, commentator from ESPN’s sports and television network. Rowe has worked at ESPN for more than 20 years as a reporter, writer and award-winning director.
Student contest entries were judged by professional journalists through Rock Our Awards, rockourawards.com.
