Eating lunch is many students’ favorite time of the day because it keeps them energized and happy. Students have many options from which to choose such as Macho Nachos, beef cutlet on a bun, creamed turkey and more. Nevertheless, students have their own opinions on what is best.
South High junior Ryan Kubiak said he likes General Tso’s chicken because it is packed with flavor. Kubiak also said that the popcorn chicken is very underrated.
Another popular school lunch option is Machos Nachos, which according to cafeteria manager Joey Russell is one of the best-selling foods at South.
“I love the Macho Nachos because they give you a lot of food to eat, and they are very tasty,” said Junior Jatziry Sandoval Reyna.
Senior Jezrael Santiago-Hernandez also shared his enjoyment for Machos Nachos and for another option. “I think that the yogurt parfait is very underrated and always fire,” said Santiago-Hernandez.
Russell said Nutrition Services at the Teachers Administration Building (TAC) building is responsible for coming up with new food options for the cafeteria. “Although we don’t get feedback from students, the staff members like the ABC Melts and the Chicken Philly,” said Russell.
The cafeteria workers are to thank for the lunch food at South, and many students regularly show their gratitude to the cafeteria staff.
“The lunch ladies are all nice, and they always tell me to have a good day,” said Junior Regina Sotelo-Flores.
