Omaha South Students have different lives, so what do they do on teacher workdays?
According to sophomore Destiny Hidalgo, she has a routine she follows. “I wake up around 8 a.m., take a shower, do my skincare, wash my face, check my phone and text my friends.” Later in the day Hidalgo said she does a lot, but most of her day is spent at cheer practice. Before practice, however, Hidalgo said she eats breakfast, “then I listen to Jhene Aiko, and, well, I get my stuff ready for practice.” After that she goes about the rest of her day.
Sophomore Jocelyn Jimenez said, “I don’t do much; I just try to have to have a chill day and not worry about school.’’ To begin her day, she said that she gets up and washes her face. “Then I help my mom babysit.” When Jimenez is not helping her mom babysit, she is at the gym. “I only go to the gym because my brother makes me; if not, I will not go,” she said. When she gets back from the gym, Jimenez said she will “just chill and enjoy my day since I don’t have school.”
At 7 a.m. sophomore Eman Daing starts her day with everyday normal, teenage things like brushing her teeth, washing her face, eating breakfast, changing her clothes and feeding her younger sister.
Daing said that later in the day, “I go on walks with my little sister because we need to get that exercise.” When Daing is not with her sister, she said, she works on assignments she has not finished, “but when I am not doing any of that, I am on my phone or sleeping.”
Jonathan Fuentes Merino, a freshman, said his day starts at 9:30 a.m. Fuentes Merino said he starts his day “pretty late because for school I have to get up at 6:00, so I sleep in.” The next part of his day includes taking a shower. “I shower every day so I can start my day off clean.” After that, Fuentes Merino said, “I eat breakfast, which is like scrambled eggs or cereal; it must be something quick and easy.” His main goal on teacher workdays is just “chilling, sleeping and not worrying about school.”
Lastly, freshman Liliana Daisy Barron said she does not do much other than sleep, eat and repeat. Barron said, “My morning mainly consists of getting up, going to the bathroom and doing my business.” After that Barron said, “I make my self breakfast, and I also make breakfast for my siblings.” Barron’s day then consists of getting ready for cheer practice. Barron said to get ready for practice, she takes a shower and does her hair. “I pick out my cheer outfit, and after that, my mom takes me and my siblings and drops me off for cheer practice.” Barron said she spends most of her day at practice and ends the day with dinner, a show or movie and then sleep.
No matter the person, students appreciate teacher workdays for the time it gives them to do what they want and need to do.
