South High English teacher Allison DeGraw said she likes how each day brings something new.
DeGraw, who teaches sophomores and seniors, said she is constantly surprised by things that happen daily. “I love when students bring up a point of discussion I hadn’t even considered when preparing the lesson,” she said.
DeGraw has taught at South High for 18 years and said her favorite thing to teach in her English classes is grammar.
“One of my favorite novel units for seniors is The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time. I also love The Five People You Meet in Heaven for sophomores,” she said.
“I enjoy the opportunity to assist students in developing their critical thinking skills, and there are so many topics students can interact with on their writing that they may not be able to do in another class,” she added.
During her free time, DeGraw said she loves to read and watch Wheel of Fortune with her husband.
What keeps her working as a teacher, she added, are her students and coworkers.
DeGraw is also a big fan of K-dramas and likes to play tennis when she is not at work.
