Looking for a local Halloween event? If you are, then Nightmare on L Street might just be the event for you.
Nightmare on L Street is a South High evening sponsored by the Educators Rising group. The event offers children a chance to trick or treat in the South gym while also offering games, prizes and snacks. The event will be the Thursday before Halloween, October 24, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Samantha Koehler-Overton said that Nightmare on L Street is “a safe, free trick or treat night for the South Omaha community.” There are also many activities like games where one can win prizes and lots of candy. Make sure to come dressed up in costume and hungry for candy. The evening is family friendly, and everyone is welcome.
“I love the community engagement, all of the costumes and the fun activities each group brings to the event,” Koehler-Overton added.
Koehler-Overton said the purpose behind the Nightmare event is to provide a way for the Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO) and Educators Rising to get involved with community outreach. Nightmare on L street started in 2018 when Koehler-Overton said she met with other Educators Rising teacher-leaders from OPS and heard about what they provided for a safe trick or treat night.
A lot of people showed up to that first event; something they did not expect. The following year, the event was moved from the cafeteria to the gym so that more families could attend, and it has been there ever since.
