“La La Land,” released in 2016 and directed by Damien Chazelle, is a touching tribute to dreams and the sacrifices that come with them. Set against the beautiful city of Los Angeles, this film follows the story of Mia, an aspiring actress and Sebastian, a jazz musician, as they go through their careers in Los Angeles while trying to maintain their relationship. With award winning visuals and music, the breathtaking performances of Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling hold the tension between dreams and reality and explore the nature of chasing your dreams.
What resonates deeply with me about “La La Land” is the touching message about the necessity of sometimes letting go of what we love to chase our dreams. Throughout the musical, both Mia and Sebastian face the reality of their ambitions. They experience moments of joy and heartbreak and show how pursuing your passion can lead to difficult choices. This theme perfectly sums up the musical’s bittersweet ending which can leave viewers contemplating the balance between happiness and your dreams.
I would highly recommend “La La Land” to anyone who appreciates a cinematic musical. Its exploration of ambition and love, combined with the visuals and memorable music, makes this a must watch. Whether you’re a fan of musicals or simply enjoy a well-told story, “La La Land” offers a unique cinematic experience that will stay with you long after the credits roll.
I would give this musical a four out of five stars due to the soundtrack really sticking with me even after watching it. I would say that the part I disliked was when it was silent for a long period of time although the cinematic angles really picked up the slack of the silence.
