When it comes to having a delicious dessert, people may find it hard to choose what is truly flavorful and will appeal to one’s taste buds. South High juniors Andrea Degante Solis, Elizabeth Hernandez, Jatziry Sandoval Reyna, Ava Yang, Camila Martinez, Juan Moreno Anacleto and Endy Barrera shared their ideas on what desserts they believe are the most flavorful and scrumptious.
What is your favorite dessert, and why do you believe it is the best?
Solis: Arroz con leche. I really like the milky but balanced taste and how you can eat it either cold or warm.
Hernandez: Chocolate chip cookies. You can never go wrong with a chewy gooey original chocolate chip cookie! Chocolate chips are the perfect topping for a cookie.
Sandoval Reyna: Flan. I like the squishy jiggly texture with the sweet taste it comes with.
Yang: Cookie dough ice cream. I like the cookie dough chunks; that’s what makes cookie dough the best ice cream flavor.
Martinez: Brownies. Brownies are my personal comfort dessert. They’re perfect to eat when having a bad day and you want a sweet treat to distract yourself.
Moreno Anacleto: Cheesecake. I love its rich, creamy texture combined with the slight tanginess of the cream cheese which balances perfectly with the sweetness of the dessert. The buttery graham cracker crust adds a delightful contrast making each bite smooth yet slightly crunchy. Whether topped with fresh fruit, chocolate or caramel, cheesecake always feels like an indulgent treat.
Barrera: Chocolate-covered raspberries. I like the sweet yet sour taste of the treat. The yummy covering of the chocolate and sourness of the raspberries balance well together.
Where is the best place to find your favorite dessert?
Degante Soils: There is no place to buy it from that makes it as yummy as my mom’s. The recipe is passed down from my great-great grandmothers.
Hernandez: Homemade is the best. I believe that the best chocolate chip cookies are the homemade cookies I bake on my own from an online recipe I found for soft cookies.
Sandoval Reyna: Supermercado Nuestra Familia is the best place to buy the best flan.
Yang: Ben & Jerry’s is the brand that I think sells the most delicious cookie dough ice cream.
Martinez: Not only are brownies my comfort food, but they’re also the best when I bake them. I use a recipe I found on TikTok.
Moreno Anacleto: My favorite place to purchase cheesecake is The Cheesecake Factory but not just any location; specifically, the one located on 10120 California Street in Omaha. Not only do they offer a wide variety of flavors and toppings, but each cheesecake is made with high-quality ingredients, and they are generous with their portions which makes it perfect for sharing with others.
Barrera: I’m not aware of a place that sells chocolate covered raspberries so making them on my own is what I find is best to do. I found an easy to-go recipe online and I got all the ingredients from a local market.
